Mobjap Children's Center Introduction & Background

After the school burned down short before Christmas 2018 the situation changed partly. The school was/is rebuilt of stone on an own ground (see below).

KIBERA SLUM BACKGROUND

Kibera is the biggest slum in sub-Saharan African, and one amongst the world. The slum environment is degrading their families.

KIBERA ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN

Kibera is a home to most orphans and abandoned children owing to its proximity to the capital city (Nairobi). The unfortunate children are as a result of deaths caused by HIV/AIDS, poverty level leading to and dehumanizing, characterized by abject poverty, corruption, periodic violence and contagious diseases due to environmental pollution! Majority of residents here are reduced to beggars due to lack of employment and opportunities to earn a living for individual wellbeing or provision of abandonment and very poor parental upbringing and crimes associated with the slum! The presence of these children is evident, and no actor is willing to support and address the challenges of their education, health and shelter. The program for our children’s Centre (MOBJAP-Garden of Hope Children Center) is designed to address these challenges, advocate for their rights and open the potentials of these children

OUR VISION

As MOBJAP-Garden of Hope Children’s Centre, our vision is to be the preferred educational provider in this slum for it to realize its full potential of our children and to ensure that they will be able to reintegrate with their communities as a Healthy, Happy, Responsible and Independent adults.

OUR MISSION

As MOBJAP-Garden of Hope, our mission is basically to cooperate and collaborate with local authorities and members of the slum community to offer a chance of LIFE and a NEW START to orphans and vulnerable children in giving them first class EDUCATION, access to necessary Healthy services, and above all the opportunity to grow up healthy and happy in a safe, caring, warm and familiar environment!

SCHOOL BURNED COMPLETELY

In December 16th 2018, fire broke out from the school’s neighbor who left unattended stove and unfortunately burned the entire of our school leaving nothing. It was unbelievable as tears rolled down our chicks until two of our pupils collapsed at the scene of the fire and they were admitted for three days! We temporarily rented 16 rooms to secure kids as we plan for the way forward. The plan included and not limited to;

  • ·        Secure development loan from a bank
  • ·        Construct firewall/perimeter wall to avoid reoccurrence
  • ·        Construct permanent classrooms
  • ·        Purchase fire extinguishers
